Framework Festival '22

It's back and bigger than ever! Scotland's emerging artists festival will return this June, with in-person and digital offerings. All will be announced soon enough...

The Theatre Writers Pilot Scheme

As part of our spring season we ran a scheme designed to provide emerging critics with a platform to write about each of the shows. We hope to develop this further to expand the support on offer to those who write and want to write about theatre.

The Scottish Emerging Theatre Awards 2021

In December 2021, we presented Scotland's inaugural emerging theatre awards. We partnered with 10 established theatre organisations to offer networking and support to recipients of the awards and hosted a zoom ceremony to celebrate the talent on offer.

Home: A Project for New Writers

A project designed to provide paid work for young, female/non-binary playwrights in Edinburgh. We were delighted to present a series of four short plays on the theme 'Home'. November 12th 2021 at the Scottish Storytelling Centre.

Kneecaps by Joe Hunter
Moot Point Collective in association with Framework Theatre

Supporting an exciting new company to present a digital rehearsed reading of a new play. 'Kneecaps' surrounds a couple, fresh from a breakup, who are flung together in the middle of an epidemic that mysteriously causes people's kneecaps to explode.

Scotland's first emerging theatre makers festival, featuring digital shows from exciting new talent, a series of tailored workshops and Q&A's with industry professionals. Across all shows and workshops, 400 tickets were booked for this event.

Play Pretend by Katie Fraser - Online Development
July 2021
Supporting the digital development of a new play by Katie Fraser. Katie is a recent graduate of Edinburgh University's Playwrighting masters.
'Play Pretend' surrounds the story of two performers, in rehearsal for a new play about Flora Macdonald, the woman who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape to Skye.

Burnout
Currently being developed by Ellen Wilson
A verbatim work exploring the impact of burnout on young people. Early in development. (Please note, the callout for interviews is now closed)

Our Fringe-alternative August show. A film-noir style audio drama where the audience play along with detective Alyssa Young as she tries to solve a murder case.

A fundraising scratch night designed to showcase the talent of emerging theatre-makers, featuring new writing monologues and musical talent.

Framework Fridays

A series of 5 monologues by young, female, Scottish writers about what it means to be a woman in Scotland. Performed by exciting new Scottish talent, directed by the Framework Team and posted free to access online.
This project received over 7000 views on our social media and launched our support strand of work.
