About Us

Incorporated in 2020, Framework aims to provide high-quality support for emerging and early-career theatre makers in Scotland to help develop their careers. We prioritise access and champion underrepresented voices.

Since starting as a graduate theatre company, our focus has shifted massively. Struggling to find opportunities to make work or engage with the industry, we decided to create these spaces for others. We want to challenge the industry we work in and help build a better, stronger, Scottish theatre sector.

We've worked with so many wonderful creatives from across the country and we can't wait to meet and support many more!

Our Work

We are Scotland's support organisation for emerging artists, led by emerging artists. We design and deliver the support we want to see in the sector.
Framework has two key strands in our work, CREATE and SUPPORT
Our CREATE strand is where we create exciting new pieces of theatre, supporting new ideas and underrepresented voices.

Our SUPPORT strand is where we support emerging and early-career theatre makers in Scotland to take the next steps in their careers.

Our Team

Emma Ruse - Chief Executive

Jennifer Galt - Creative Producer

Morna Ross - Marketing Coordinator

We are a small team, and mostly work with freelance artists on our projects. If you need to reach us, we can all be reached at (firstname)@frameworktheatre.com - and if you don't know who to email, Emma can point you in the right direction!

Our Aims

  • We will establish a community of emerging artists, providing the needed space (digital or physical) for peer connection, knowledge sharing, and opportunities to develop.

  • We aim to create opportunities for those who do not benefit from the patriarchal structure, with at least 60% of our collaborators identifying as female, non-binary or transgender.

  • We commit to continually evaluating the infrastructure of the theatre sector and challenging the way we work, implementing changes to our practices and engaging with the wider theatre community.
