The Scottish Emerging Theatre Awards 2021

The Scottish Emerging Theatre Awards 2021 are a celebration of the emerging talent in Scottish theatre. Featuring 10 categories designed to showcase the best of the sector, we are pleased to present the inaugural awards to recognise the amazing work that often goes unnoticed.

On this page you'll find the categories and criteria, we recommend reading through them and if anyone springs to mind then nominate via our form here!
Successful artists will be acknowledged via an award ceremony on the 16th December 2021, taking place on Zoom (tickets available soon). Winners will receive an hour-long networking session with an established theatre company, designed to support their development!
Nominations close:
Thursday 9th December at 5pm
You can nominate individuals, companies or specific projects for the awards - dependent on the category. You should only fill out the nomination form once per nominee, selecting as many categories as appropriate and giving as much information as possible!
Each category has a tagline, please check nominee eligibility against these and be prepared to explain why.
  • Nominated artists/projects or companies should be Scotland-based.
  • Nominated projects/productions should have taken place from 1st December 2020 - 30th November 2021.
  • All individuals, and nominated projects or companies should be led by early-career/emerging artists. We are putting no criteria on what this means! If you feel like it applies to you or the artists you are nominating, then the nomination is eligible!

Can I nominate myself? Yes! In fact, we encourage you to shout about your own achievements!
How are you deciding the winners? We will be passing the eligible nominations on to a panel of established theatre makers who will make the final decision on the winners of each award.
Does number of nominations impact the results? No! Whether someone is nominated once or ten times has no impact.
I'm not sure if the person/company/projects I want to nominate is eligible? As long as the project or people involved are mostly based in Scotland, could be described as early career and made work in the designated timeframe of December 2020 - November 2021 then they are eligible!
Can the same person/company win in multiple categories? Yes, either with the same project or with different projects!
